Havaldar Dhaga huffed and puffed audibly as he gave chase. Only a few moments ago, he was enjoying a steaming cup of tea at a stall when he heard cries of “Thief! Stop!” He put down his cup and rounded the corner, where he saw a distraught looking woman run out of a supermarket. “A shoplifter!” she cried, pointing towards a small street. “They went that way!”

Havaldar Dhaga took off immediately down that street. He had no idea what the culprit looked like, but he hoped that he’d be able to spot the guilty party without much trouble. The street was deserted for the most part, except for an old man walking his dog. “Did you see someone run this way?” asked Havaldar Dhaga. “Yes,” said the old man. “I think that person went into the hair salon at the end of the road.” On the word of this eyewitness, Havaldar Dhaga burst into the salon. At first glance, all seemed innocent inside.

If you carefully observe the image in the magazine you will notice Suspect 1 in the middle of getting a haircut. They said, “Tsk! Tsk! I’m getting a haircut for a super important job interview. I don’t appreciate this additional jolt to my nerves.”

Suspect 2 was inspecting her new haircut as she got off the salon chair and stood on a clean floor. They said, “I love my new hairstyle! The cut took an hour, but the results are fantastic!”

Suspect 3 was looking at their reflection with a sadness in their eyes.  They sighed and said, “They took off more than I asked for, but it’s okay. It’s hair. It’ll grow back.”

Havaldar Dhaga smirked. He knew who the shoplifter was.

Who was it and how did he figure it out?
